GOOD AND BAD FOODS FOR YOUR DOG

Not all food is created equal!

In order to find the right dog food for your pet consult your veterinarian. Make sure it's one that doesn't have a lot of fillers and additives and is "Well Balanced."

GOOD FOODS

There are some healthy snacks and treats that you can give them. Here is a list of "people food" that is healthy and even beneficial for your dog. Like people however, some dogs have allergies and aversions to certain foods. If you notice anything abnormal consult your vet.

  • Blueberries

  • Strawberries

  • Rasberries

  • Apples

  • Bananas

  • Plain yogurt (NO sweetener or flavor)

  • Peanut Butter (Peanuts only. Xylitol is a recent additive that is highly toxic. Look for this)

  • Pumpkin

  • Sweet Potato

  • Meat such as chicken, beef, turkey & fish (fully cooked meant and no cooked bones!)

  • Broccoli

BAD FOODS

Even more important than knowing what foods dogs can eat, is knowing what foods can be toxic to your dog. This list contains food that has toxic principles and should never be fed to a dog. Some cause more serious side effects than others. It's safe to just stay away from all of them though.

  • Chocolate

  • Macadamia Nuts

  • Almonds

  • Cinnamon

  • Onion

  • Ice Cream (& sugar)

  • Avocado

  • Cherries

  • Xylitol or Birch Sugar or Birch Bark Sugar (sweetener added to toothpaste, gum, candy & some peanut butter & other foods. Highly toxic, even in small amounts!)

  • Raisins

  • Grapes

  • Tomatoes

  • Asparagus

  • Mushrooms

  • Corn on the cob

  • Cooked bones

  • Alcohol

  • Coffee & Caffeine

  • Fruit pits (peach, mango, avocado etc.)

If your dog does ingest something toxic, call your vet or an emergency vet right away.
